Welcome to this unique project management website. This website contains the content of two powerful products. The first is the TenStep Project Management Process®. This complete, scalable project management methodology contains all you need to be a successful project manager, including processes, techniques, best practices, templates and training content. The TenStep process model consists of two up-front planning steps - defining the project and building the workplan. There are then eight additional processes that are used to manage the project, including managing the workplan, issues, scope, communications, risk, documentation, quality and metrics. The lower of the ten steps are applicable in some form to all projects, while the processes on the higher steps may only be applicable to larger or more complex projects.
The second product represented is the PMBOK®. The Project Management Institute (PMI) has created a standard framework for how to think about project management. This framework is represented in their Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). The PMBOK® does not represent a methodology. It is really a high-level model that describes the various knowledge areas that PMI thinks are important for project managers to understand to be successful on projects. At a very high level, some of these knowledge areas (and sub-areas) can be tied together into processes. However, the PMBOK is not meant to be a process map for project managers. Instead, the PMBOK® contains knowledge areas, sub-processes, inputs and outputs, and techniques (typically definitions, not how-to's).
The bottom line is that an organization would be hard-pressed to use the PMBOK® as a means to actually manage projects.
TenStep PB (TenStep in the PMBOK® Framework™) combines the TenStep Project Management Process with the PMBOK® to create a new product that can be used to manage your projects. This product contains all of the detailed information from the TenStep Project Management Process mapped into the PMBOK® framework. This resulting product is a great choice for companies that want the clear, detailed content of the TenStep Project Management process, but prefer to align their overall project management model to the PMBOK®. To see the general mapping of the TenStep Project Management Process to the PMBOK, please visit webpage A6.1 on the main www.TenStep.com website.

This full content of this website is available to companies that purchase a license from TenStep, Inc. (98.2 TenStep PB Licenses). We recognize that companies (and individuals) will be curious as to how the website is laid out and organized. Therefore, we have left open two sections for general viewing. First is Section 2.0 Context. The second is Section 5.0 Project Scope Management. As you look at Scope Management, you will notice that the website pages are all organized around the PMBOK framework. However, each sub-process also contains supplemental content from the TenStep Project Management Process. This TenStep content is in the form of "processes" and "techniques". All of the content of the TenStep Project Management Process has been mapped into the appropriate portion of the PMBOK® framework, where applicable, in similar "process" and "technique" sections. In addition, all of the workplan activities from TenStep have been included in section 20 of TenStep PB. Lastly, all of the common project management templates to support the PMBOK® are included in the Basic Template Library, with hyperlinks from each of the process inputs and outputs sections.
Other then these two sections, the TenStep PB website is password protected and can be accessed by licensed users only. However, these two open sections will provide the reader with a good sense of the content in TenStep PB and how it is all tied together. To review the TenStep project Management Process, visit www.TenStep.com. A read-only copy of the PMBOK® can be obtained from www.PMI.org.
